One of the first associations to our mind, at the mention of Dolenjska, is certainly cviček. However, Dolenjska is not only red wine, with so many attractions, castles, natural and cultural monuments, it is difficult to praise any other part of Slovenia. Easily accessible region in southeastern Slovenia, which stretches from the southern part of the Ljubljana basin to Gorjanci on the border with Croatia and the Blok, from the Kolpa to the Sava, on the other side, this region is ideal for short trips and holidays in the green nature all year round. In autumn, the wine routes which cross Dolenjska, are extremely attractive for the trips. Cviček is bright red, pleasantly sour, very dry, low in alcohol and tannin substances. It is a kind of more red and some white varieties. They produce it from žametovka, kraljevina, frankinja, šentlovrenka, to which some white wine varieties are also added, especially White Riesling. It is a pleasant drinking dry red wine with bouquet, reminiscent of raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, goes well with many dishes, because of its lightness and vibrancy, complements many different tastes.
Winegrowing region Dolenjska covers 4275 ha. From white varieties thrive kraljevina, yellow Plavec, Riesling, Sylvaner, local ranina, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Kerner, Riesling. From the red varieties thrive portugalka, šentlovrenka, gamay, žametovka, Franconian, zweigelt, Pinot Noir.
